The First Stop

As assistant vice chancellor of the Academy for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Washington University in St. Louis, and in previous roles with the City of St. Louis, Forward Through Ferguson, and the Ferguson Commission, Nicole Hudson has seen how the stories people tell themselves about race and the region have shaped the St. Louis we have today. If any kind of change is possible, she says, we must first understand the narratives that have gotten us where we are, so that we can craft a new narrative of a more equitable, inclusive St. Louis.
